Government Announces Nationwide Civil Defence Mock Drill Amid Rising India-Pakistan Tensions The government has declared a nationwide civil defence mock drill scheduled for Wednesday, May 7, covering 244 districts across the country. This decision follows escalating tensions between India and Pakistan in the wake of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed states to conduct a large-scale civil defence mock drill on May 7 across 244 districts. This marks the first such exercise since 1971, when a similar drill preceded the India-Pakistan war.

Ahead of tomorrow's civil defence exercises, civic volunteers conducted rehearsals in multiple cities. The Centre-ordered drills—covering 259 locations—will focus on air raids, evacuations, and bunker safety, following heightened tensions with Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack.

During the drills, a full-scale emergency response will be demonstrated. This includes coordination between the police, fire brigade, NDRF, hospitals, and civilian participants. All participating units will be assigned a code word or timeline to follow during the exercise.

A total of 259 districts across 35 states and Union Territories are set to participate in the nationwide mock drill on Wednesday, as directed by the Union Home Ministry.
